Historical Roulette
The game of Roulette is a betting game where you chose the numbers that will come up on the
red and black wheel as it spins around and then comes to a stop.
The game of Roulette is thought to have been created in France during the years of the 1700’s
when the rich needed some type of new entertainment and something to do with their money.
Over the following years, up to and including today, Roulette is still a popular game that
generations of all ages enjoy. Some of the most well known Roulette casinos are located in Monte Carlo and in
Monaco with Roulette also found in other casinos through out the world as well.
The word Roulette itself is actually a word from the French language, which means small
wheel. The game of Roulette is played on a spinning wheel that ranges in sizes according to the casino and the size
of the table where it is being played. Often the wheel is horizontal as if it were a top, but other times the wheel
will sit vertically with a little tab pointing to the winning number instead of a ball falling into the hole on the
wheel.
The history of gambling in Monaco can be seen when Prince Charles was in rule and the
gambling fever took over the countryside. This was a manner of helping the country out of its poor state while
providing entertainment to both visitors and the wealthy.
Over the years several types of roulette wheels can be found, one with a single 0 and another
type with 00 on the wheel. While the gambling methods are similar and at the rules are similar, there are the major
differences between the wheels found in early history and in the casinos of today.
